The Sunshine Blogger Award #3

Hey everybody!! Today I’m going to be doing the Sunshine Blogger Award for the 3rd time! Thank you so much to Charlotte @ Bewitching Books, Ravenous Reads for tagging me!!

Charlotte tagged me in December of last year, and it’s April of this year, and I know that I’m a mess, and I’m working on that. Honestly, I kind of miss doing tags, because they are so easy, kind of generic, and they’re fun ways to engage with the blogging community. I don’t know why I stopped them before.

Anyways, this is my third Sunshine Award and I’m really touched that I’ve been tagged for it 3 times! Thank you guys so much!! You can see my previous one’s here and here.

Let’s get started!

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their page so others can see how amazing they are, too!
  • List the rules in the post and the badge somewhere on your website
  • Answer the 11 questions you got asked
  • Nominate 11 new bloggers for this award and let them know
  • Ask the nominees 11 new questions!

Are there any 2020 releases that you’re already excited for? If so which ones?

I’m super excited for The Hand on The Wall by Maureen Johnson. I read the first two books in this trilogy last year, and even though the first one was meh and just okay, the second one was pretty good and had a cliffhanger that shocked me so much.

And I thought that it was the final book, so I was even more upset when I realized the third book wasn’t even released yet.

But at least, I have the 3rd one now and I’m super excited to read it. Even though I don’t remember what happens in the first 2 books anymore lol.

What’s your favorite book to TV adaptation?

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

The book was sad.

The movie had me struggling to keep my tears in.

It’s honestly the only book to TV/Movie adaptation that I’ve watched and loved, probably because the movie made me so emotional and it didn’t butcher the book. Most adaptations that I’ve watched have been either meh, or what in the world???, or just plain NO. So to watch this movie that was similar to the book, and it captured the emotional sadness at the end, that was amazing and such a relief.

If you could step into the world of any book which one would it be?

As much as I’d love to say I’d like to step into Ketterdam and join the Dregs, you’d probably find my dead body within an hour. And Luthadel sounds kinda cool, but again, I’d probably just be skaa and be dead within an hour. Or a minute if Vin considers me a threat to her wonderful king.

Honestly, all the fantasy worlds that are interesting are the most deadly, so I’ll just stick to my normal bland and safe world, thank you very much. Though this world is anything but safe.

What author would you love to see more books from?

S.K. ALI!!!

Love From A to Z was really good and the representation was on point, and I love her so much for that. I’ve also read her debut novel, Saints & Misfits, and it was kinda good too (3 star-ish). And I took part in a writer’s summit in which she was a speaker and she’s honestly so sweet and bubbly, and I really really like her. Lol 😅

I seriously would love to see her author more books, even if they don’t necessarily have Muslim rep (though I would dance with glee if they do) because I think her writing and the way she tells the story is pretty good. (There’s always two opposites in her books, Saints & Misfits, and Marvels & Oddities. It’s really cute (?) and I love it)

Do you prefer enemies to lovers or friends to lovers romances in books?

Hahaha, I plead the Fifth? Honestly idk. I haven’t seen much of FTL so I couldn’t say…

If you could pick any book to be turned into a musical, which would it be?

I’m not a big fan of musicals really, so I wouldn’t want to turn a book into one lol. A book I would like to see as a movie though is maybe The Book Thief. I don’t know, I might just be saying that because I want to bawl my eyes out for a few more hours at the end.

What supernatural creature do you think we need to see more of in fiction?

Um, I don’t know? i dont know anything today 🤦🏽‍♀️ I was going to say dragons, because there is definitely enough fae and faeries out there. It would be cool to see more dragons in fiction, and maybe capaill uisce. Just because that’s the only other supernatural creature that I can think of. And they were pretty cool in The Scorpio Races.

What’s your favorite time of day?

Nighttime! I actually work a lot better at night, or at least I feel focused and motivated enough to get more work done. During the morning, all I can think about is my warm bed, and afternoons are incredibly noisy and kind of annoying. Everybody is working or studying then, so I can barely get any peace and quiet whereas at night, everyone’s gone and it’s just beautiful silence.

What two authors do you think would write an amazing book together?

Uzma Jaluluddin and S.K. Ali. That writing summit that I mentioned earlier, Sajidah (S.K.) and Uzma actually spoke together, and they were both so sweet and goofy, and absolutely awesome friends and I think it’d be really cool if they co-authored a book. They’ve also written in the same genre of “halal romance” so it’d be interesting to see what they could come up with together.

What are your hobbies outside of reading and blogging?

Right now, it’s primarily cooking and baking. I’ve made donuts, bagels, sorbet, bread rolls, fish tacos, fried rice, sauteed vegetables and fish, chicken, lasgna etc… And I know Sorbet is technically not baking, but it’s a dessert and that’s all I care 🙂 I’m thinking about making pretzels this weekend, so if you have any recipes, be sure to share them below!!

If you could get everybody to read one book what would it be and why?

There are a couple of books I could choose from, but I’ve come to realize that, not everyone is going to love the books that I do. And pushing people to read the books that I love isn’t necessarily the best idea because they may not like it. And it’s worse especially when it comes to people who aren’t very interested in reading. If they don’t like the book I recommend, it may push them away from reading even more which is a catastrophe that I wouldn’t want to happen. So I’d rather give you a list of books based on your favorite genre, or based on what you like, rather than make everybody read 1 book that I want them to.

But okay, the one book that I’d love for everybody to read is Your House Will Pay by Steph Cha. Lol, why the above mini essay if I was just going to recommend one anyway? Kind of because I just realized that and I wanted to share and also because I’m a drama queen.

Why would I recommend Your House Will Pay? Because I think there’s a lesson that everyone can learn from such a tragic book even if they don’t like it.

  1. Oh Rukky!! Thank you so much for the tag (and the kind words – I might be crying over here!!)
Most of the ‘friends to lovers’ I’ve seen has a lack of communication and they’re both in their own corners pining after each other, but too scared to make a move in case it ruins the friendship and it KILLS ME!! I’m definitely an enemies to lovers fan!!

    1. You’re welcome!! ❤✨
Yeah, I had a feeling that that’s how it mostly goes. At least in TV shows, I know for sure, and it’s so so ANNOYING. You just want them to open up and talk ughhh. But then I also understand why they are hesitant, so it’s just a nerve-wracking and very emotional experience 😂😅 At least with ETL, they will insult each other the whole time lol

  2. Thank you for tagging us Rukky!! We can’t wait to answer your questions 😄

Aaah, The Bridge to Teribithia was such a good adaptation!! I read the book when I was little so I don’t think I really understood why it was sad, but then I watched the movie years later and it was literally the *first* movie I ever cried while watching! 😭😭

Also yummm for all the things you’ve been cooking and baking. I’m super impressed too because everything you’ve made sounds pretty difficult too! I would never be able to make bagels. What recipe did you use for sorbet? I loved reading your answers!! 💕💕

    1. You’re welcome!! I hope you guys enjoy writing it 😊

Yesss! It did make me tear up a little as well. There’s just something about movies that makes it more realistic than books (at least for me) which makes me cry a lot more when watching them than when I’m reading lol

Aww thank you!! Bagels are actually kind of pretty simple lol. At least, they have lesser ingredients than normal bread. The only step that could be a problem is the boiling part, but other than that, it’s pretty straightforward!! 🙂

For the sorbet, I don’t remember who I got it from (it was youtube, and I think I combined different techniques from different recipes lol), but it was made up of a syrup and frozen fruits.

So for the syrup, it was 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 a cup of water. Mix those together and bring it to a boil. Continue mixing until it thickens into a syrupy consistency. In a blender, I added 4 cups of frozen fruits and the syrup. You might have to do it in batches (maybe 2 cups + half the syrup the first time, and then the rest the second time), but you just blend it, until it’s combined and looks like ice cream (thick and creamy). You can actually serve it then or you could freeze it for a while if you’d like.

Hope that works for you!! Please do let me know if it does! Thank you so much ❤✨

  3. Thanks for doing this (: sorry that I didn’t read it sooner, I’ve been away from my blog. I loved reading your answers to these questions though. I still need to read the second Truly Devious book but I definitely can’t wait to finish the series. Mysteries always tend to interest me (: I hope you enjoy it when you read the final. And fantasy world always have features to them that would be incredible to see but I agree – they’re so dangerous!! I haven’t seen or read Bridge to Terabithia so I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. There is a Book Thief movie though, I hopelessly haven’t read the book but I have watched the film. It’s a couple of years old now (I can’t remember when it came out) it was really good though!! I love baking too although I really need to start doing it more 😅 although to be fair I have baked a little more than I had been recently. And I love how much thought you put into the recommendation question. It’s true that forcing someone to read can be bad as it puts them off of reading. I think everyone also has books that they wish everyone would read too though. I’ll have to look the one that you mentioned up as I haven’t heard of it before.

  4. Thank you so much for the tag! I agree that being in Ketterdam would be fun for the first few minutes, or until I got robbed or kidnapped or killed, and that the most interesting fictional worlds are very dangerous. Also, the Book Thief as a movie would be amazing, but also so, so sad! I loved reading your answers to all of the questions, and I’m excited to answer yours!

    1. You’re welcome, Aria!! True! I think them being dangerous is what makes them the most interesting and fascinating. It definitely would be really really sad (if they do it right) and I would totally want to watch it! I can’t wait to see your answers 🖤

      1. Yeah, if Kaz and Inej and them were less dangerous, and less willing to be in dangerous situations, then the book would definitely not be as interesting!!! I hope that if they make a movie of the book thief, that they do it well, and that they do it right!

  5. I really need to read From A to Z still! Also, the capaill uisce /were/ so cool, and it’d be awesome to read more stories with them! I love that you cook—and sorbet?! That’s even cooler than just making ice cream 😂. I loved reading your answers (including the mini essay, which btw, I feel you 👏🏽)! Thank you so much for the tag, Rukky 😄!

    1. Yess, I hope you enjoy it!! It really would! And though TSR was good, and made them sounds amazing, I would love to see them in a much more terrifying light…if you get what I mean?
Haha, it was actually pretty simply. I just made a sugar syrup (1:1 ratio of sugar and water), and blended it with fruits. I didn’t even need to churn it, or freeze, and mix several timeslike the recipe said because my blender pretty much did it the first time around, and it came out creamy and great! Let me know if you give it a try!!
Aww, I’m glad you did!! I’ll probably make that a discussion topic for June 🙂 You’re welcome; I can’t wait to see your response 🖤✨

  6. Thank you for the nomination!! 😭💕 Though I’m the woooorst at keeping track of what I’m tagged in lmao, I appreciate it so much when someone tags me in something! Hahaha, I’d love to go to Ketterdam too! Let’s just go get pickpocketed and murdered together. And LOL, you’re right—Vin would kill you in a minute if she thought that you were a threat to Elend. Also, you cook and bake?? my respect for you has grown 100x more intense. I am inherently bad at cooking and baking (previous experiences have taught me that), so I have so much admiration for people who can cook and bake without producing a disaster :”)

    1. Aww, you’re welcome!! Well, it took me 4 months to do this tag, and then 2 weeks to reply to you, so you’re okay 😂 More than okay tbh. Aww, no problem!
Yes, that would make it much more fun! And hopefully murdered because anything else (besides joining Kaz) would be a much worse fate. Lol, she wouldn’t even give me one minute 😂 And then Elend would tell her to not be so mistrusting. And she’d huff and glare at my dead body as OreSeur decided I was a horrible choice and stick to his wolfhound body 😂😂😂
Aww, haha. It’s not for everyone, and as much as I’d like to scream that anyone can be a cook and baker (which you can!! Practice makes perfect! I made a chocolate cake that came out green once so…), it’s like saying anyone can love reading, which though we would love to scream and believe, we also know it’s not entirely feasible.
Keep trying!! I believe in you, and I know you can do it 🖤✨

  7. THAAAANKS SO MUCH FOR NOMINATING ME! And great answers: the food you baked/cooked/ ice creamed (haha) sounds super awesome, I literally just ate but am hungry all over again now haha! And friends to lovers vs enemies to lovers is super difficult, I’ve read super amazing love stories with both concepts, but honestly I couldn’t tell you either haha!

    1. You’re welcome, dear!! Haha, that’s a good one! Most of the time, they turn out well…but then I forget the salt, or I oversalt lol. Hope I didn’t make you too hungry! It truly is! I hope you have fun with this tag 🙂

  8. I have the ebook for Truly Devious and I hope I read it soon. It sounds like my type of book and besides that, it’s highly praised in the book community so I’m excited 😭😍

I mean, I know I’m the owl after all, but I seriously cannot concentrate during daylight hours. The night is so calm and quiet and my two braincells feel like they can process everything better 😄

I think Uzma and SK Ali would be a fantastic collaboration 🤩

PS: I’m taking a GR break for a while, so please reply to my message via email when you do. Otherwise I’ll see it after Ramadan or something, if you don’t mind. But I’ll miss speaking to you 🙃💖

    1. I hope you enjoy it!! The first book is kind of 3 stars, but the second one was pretty great!

Haha, I feel you! Especially because we have full houses, so when everyone has retired for the evening, I can finally breathe and live lol

      No problem!!
