How to Encourage Others to Read – Let’s Talk Bookish

Hello everyone and welcome back! It is time for another Let’s Talk Bookish discussion. Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme, that is hosted by me and Dani @ Literary Lion, where we discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each other’s posts.

Today’s topic is: How To Encourage Others To Read (suggested by Rian @ Dogs and Books)

This is an excellent question. I previously had a very naive belief about to how to do this, but after a little bit of experience trying to convince someone to read, I have a different perspective on this. Thank you so much to Rian for suggesting this topic, and without further ado, let’s get started!

WWW Wednesday #43

Hey friends! I hope you are having a fantastic day! It is time for my weekly reading update, WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words.

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Let’s get started!

All covers are from Goodreads

What I Just Finished:

Queen of Shadows and Empire of Storms: Both were spectacular, though EoS has some scenes and went from YA to NA. Honestly, the ending of EoS absolutely surprised me and I still can’t really believe it. We also got so many awesome women, men, males, and females and I’m so so happy about that.

Ink and Bone: This was really good and I’m curious to see what happens next. Jess was an interesting MC and I liked how he had amazing friendships with all the other characters. The plot and idea is awesome as well. I just wish that the other characters had a more prominent and active role in the story.

What I’m Currently Reading:

Just started this, and so far so good. Though she keeps rambling off with little side notes and I’m kind of annoyed and amused by this at the same time.

What I Plan To Read Next:

Next up is The Chain by Adrian McKinty.

Chat with me

That’s it for this Wednesday. What are you reading? Have you read Ink and Bone? What did you think? Did the side characters feel very left out, to you, in the story? Let’s chat in the comments below! (Be sure to link to your WWW’s so that I can check them out!)

What I Just Finished:

Heir of Fire was really great. It was amazing seeing Celaena become the person that she is meant to be. And I absolutely loved the witches!! I can’t wait to see what happens to them in the later books! I didn’t really enjoy Chaol/Aedion’s point of view nor did I really care about what was happening in Rifthold until the end.

The Turn of the Key was also great. I enjoyed the suspense and the atmosphere created by all the weird things going on. I was honestly anxious enough that I stopped reading when night fell lol. But the more I think about the ending, the more it doesn’t make sense, and I wish it had been explained better.

I picked up This Is Where It Ends on a whim, and I kind of enjoyed it. The horrors of what was going on was so heartbreaking, and to know that it happens in real life rather frequently is so sad and outrageous. However, the characters were really flat and both Autumn and Claire annoyed me. Tomas, Sylv, and Matt were the only ones that I liked. I also didn’t really like how Tyler was portrayed. Overall, it was meh.

What I’m Currently Reading:

Queen of Shadows (11%): I’m seriously upset with Chaol right now. And I used to love him. His confrontation with Aelin went so badly, and I honestly wished she’d punched him maybe once, because obviously his ears are not working right.

What I Plan To Read Next:

Next up is either Ink and Bone, Empire of Storms, or Memory Man.

Monthly TBR: January 2020

Good morning amigos! I hope you’re having a great day! Today, I’ll be sharing with you my reading plans for this month.

Originally, my goal was to read 12 books, but to be honest, I think I’m going to bring that down to 8. Classes just started today, and with my probably harder college classes starting next week, I think I’m going to go easy on myself.

My reading goal for 2020 is 110 books, which means roughly 9.12666… books per month. So yeah, 8 isn’t too bad a start for the year.

Let’s get started!

Already Read:

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas:

This was really good, and I’m super happy with the way the series is going. It was interesting to see Celaena become the person she is meant to be, and Rowan was a wonderful friend and teacher. Emrys and Luca were so precious, and I loved them so much.

Also, the witches!!!!!! The witches were phenomenal and I loved their story-line so much! I can’t wait to see the rest and what happens to them!!

To Be Read:

I’ve already started The Turn of the Key, and it is creepily deliciously good! I feel like I’m in the story with Rowan, so it’s actually creeping out more than I’d like to admit lol

  • The Chain by Adrian McKinty. Available soon, E-book

I might not read all of these, and I may read more. It all depends on how the month goes. Last month, I read a lot more thrillers and mystery, but this month, I think I have a healthy mix of the two.

What are you reading this month? Do you have any books that you are excited for this year? What book did you start off the year with? What’s your favorite YA spy book? Chat with me in the comments below!
