WWW Wednesday #40

Good morning. I hope you are having a great week! It is time for my weekly reading update, WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words.

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Let’s get started!

All covers are from Goodreads

What I Just Finished:

Mistborn: The Final Empire: I guess you could say that the hype is real for this one. I really liked this, and all the characters. Ham, and Vin were my favorites, and I loved how Vin changed throughout the story. Kell was amazing because he’s a madman and a genius, as well as a phenomenal leader. But I still want to be mad at him for what he did. Elend’s potential as a character was ruined, and I am still mad about that, but overall this was really great.

Lock Every Door: This is a thriller and not really a mystery. The mystery wasn’t that great, and pretty much all of my suspicions and guesses were correct, so it was really meh because of that. However, I loved having Jules as the narrator, because I could feel her fear, and the atmosphere combined with her fear made this such a thrilling book. It was still disappointing, because the hype made me expect more.

Hungry Hearts: My hold is over. I managed to finish it up to 41% but now I’m going to have wait to borrow it again.

What I’m Currently Reading:

Capturing the Devil (24%): So far so good. That twist. I did not see that coming (which I don’t most of the time lol) but it makes sense and I’m curious to see what else happens. And Audrey Rose has gotten a grip about Thomas so I’m happy about that.

Blingsighted (0%): I’m going to start this, and hopefully it’ll be good! I’ve heard so much about Karin Slaughter’s thrillers, and I’m so excited to finally try one of her books.

What I Plan To Read Next:

Next up is The Late Show and Ninth House.

Monthly TBR: December 2019

Good morning! Welcome back to another post, dear friends. Today, I’m going to be sharing with you my TBR for December, including the books that I’ve already read so far this month.

Last month, I had a TBR of 13 books, and I only read 8, which was kind of disappointing. But, I still think it helps me to have an idea of the books that I’m going to read, so I’m going to continue having a TBR. If I plan on reaching my GR goal, hopefully I’ll read 12 more books this month.

Let’s get started.

Already Read

  • Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. (Read: Dec. 1) This was so so so much better than the first book, and we actually got to see Celaena in action. The disaster that happened in the second half was nervewracking and the final reveal was surprising. However, it all made sense and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes.
  • The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. (Read Dec. 3) I really liked it, but the ending just left me feeling kind of disappointed? I’m not sure why, but it just didn’t feel right. I can defintiely see why it’s compared to Six of Crows, and while there are several similarities, both books are still different and unique in their own way. The characters were pretty great (Zofia, Enrique, and Hypnos were my favorite), the heists were okay, but the puzzles were amazing. That very last twist at the end though completely surprised me.
  • The Lines We Cross by Randa Abdel-Fattah. (Read Dec. 6) This was okay. I’m really disappointed, because the Muslim rep is pretty much non-existent. Mina was aggravating, Michael was meh, the politics were interesting, and I loved Paula, Nathan, Mum and Baba. But overall this book was just meh and very disappointing.

Currently Reading

  • Hungry Hearts. This is so far pretty good, but my two favorite stories are Moments to Return, and Kings and Queens. I loved all the food description in MTR and I really related to the MC’s fear of death, because I sometimes have moments where it terrifies me too. K&Q was really interesting and I would really love a full length novel about it. However, my hold is almost up for this, so I might have to wait to finish the rest of the book.
  • The Final Empire. I’m just a few chapters in, but I like Vin, Kell strikes me as a hot-headed genius, and I wish Camon would disappear off the face of the Earth 🙂

Library Borrows/Holds

I’m kind of tired of YA and Fantasy books right now, so I want to go back to reading more thrillers and mystery novels. However, I’ve already borrowed some fantasy books, so I’m still going to finish reading those.

  • Our House by Louise Candlish. On Hold, E-book

WWW Wednesday #39

Welcome back! I hope you are having a great day! It is time for my weekly reading update, WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words.

I missed last week’s post, so I’m going to combine last week’s and this week’s WWW Wednesday’s together.

What I Just Finished:

Crooked Kingdom: I’m so happy everything turned out okay except for you know what. Why Bardugo? Why? That was pretty heartbreaking, and just awful. But I’m glad that everyone got what they wanted at the end. You can check out my possibly spoilery non-official review on GR. (Read: Nov 20)

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill was kind of disappointing. I was just left with a sense of wanting more. However, the story was pretty good. It wasn’t remarkable or anything, and it did try to cover too many subplots all at once without properly doing just one, but it was still a fun read. (Read: Nov 23)

The Long Game was amazing, and I loved all the twists. Even though this was my 3rd reread, I was still surprised and absolutely enjoyed reading this all over again. Asher, Tess, Vivvie, and Henry, they are all amazing characters. (Read: Nov 25)

That was a surprise. Crown of Midnight was so so so much better than Throne of Glass and I’m surprised. I didn’t expect this at all, and I loved how it showed more of Celaena’s assassin side, rather than just telling us how amazing she is. But I wish this mess with Chaol never happened. He doesn’t really deserve this. (Read: Dec 1)

I finished The Gilded Wolves last night, and even though I can see why it gets compared to SoC, I think it’s different in it’s own way. I really liked Zofia and Enrique, and eventually Hypnos (he’s very hard to not like), and Tristan reminded me so much of Wylan and I loved it. The heists are spectacular, and I loved how Chokshi incorporated history and math into it. It made it so much more fun to solve. (Read: Dec 3)

What I’m Currently Reading:

I’m currently reading Hungry Hearts, and I’ll be starting The Lines We Cross hopefully later today.

What I Plan To Read Next:

Next up is The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, and Lock Every Door by Riley Sager.

What I Just Finished:

A Darker Shade of Magic was a pleasant surprise. I really liked Kell, would have loved more of Rhy, and Lila was an interesting character. There was a bit of info dumping and it was kind of slow in the beginning, but I liked knowing how everything worked. I’m wondering how it’s a series, when there was no cliffhanger or something at the end, but I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Rhy and Kell.

I just finished my re-read of The Fixer, and it is still just as amazing. I loved the characters, and the plot twists, and I noticed some new things this time around. Asher is the best, Vivvie is the sweetest, and Henry and Tess are fighting for the title of the deadliest. I loved the odd friendship between them all. (BR with Amelia)

What I’m Currently Reading:

I’m going to start The Long Game today!

I’m 67% into Crooked Kingdom and the banter is everything. I missed this team so so much, and I’m loving how this has a lot more heists going on. And I forgot how absolutely ruthless Kaz is. And this scheme that they’re plotting, I really hope it goes right. It has to.

What I Plan To Read Next:

Next up is The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, or Hungry Hearts, or Crown of Midnight.
